District 9 is a film produced by Peter Jackson and directed by Neill Blomkamp. Once I heard Peter Jackson produced this film, I automatically had to see it. He directed the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, and also directed ‘King Kong’.

District 9 is probably one of Peter Jackson’s best films. It takes place in Johannesburg, Nigeria, where an alien spaceship has been hovering over the city for over 2 decades, while the aliens live directly under it, in a slum called ‘District 9′. The MNU (Multi-National United) plan to move the 1.5 million ‘prawns’ to a new facility, called ‘District 10′. Wikus van de Merwe leads the relocation by serving eviction notices to to the aliens.

I don’t want to spoil any more of it, so that’s all I’m going to say. This movie really is remarkable though, the transition from a documentary to an actual movie is amazing. I give this movie an 11/10 on the awesome scale.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas morning. I sure as hell didn’t, I opened all of my gifts last night.

Paranormal Activity was a low budget film made with under $15,000, and has received a reputation of being one of the scariest movies of all time. I’m thinking that it lives up to that reputation. The movie is filmed using a technique called “found footage” which is a film made entirely of footage. Some other examples of this type of film-making are The Blair Witch Project, and Cloverfield.

I wasn’t expecting much when I turned on this film. Maybe a little jump or two, but I was wrong. This movie will scare you long after you finish the movie.

Paranormal Activity follows a pretty straightforward ghost storyline. Katie and Micah are a young couple who are ‘engaged to be engaged’. After they move in together, they start to experience weird paranormal activity in their home. Such as the sink turning on randomly, doors slamming, etc. Micah decides to set up a camera in their bedroom, and record everything that happens in their home while they are sleeping. This only makes the demon angry, and the haunting starts to get worse over time. They decide to invite a psychic into their home who tells them that it isn’t a ghost who is haunting them, it is merely a demon who Katie reveals has always been in her life. The psychic tells them that they need to bring in a ‘demonologist’ into their home to help exorcise the demon.

That’s pretty much all I can say about the movie, without spoiling anything major. If you have a faint heart, fear of ghosts, or if your just afraid of the dark, I wouldn’t watch this movie.

But if you don’t mind any of those, watch it. You won’t be disappointed. I give the movie a 9/10 on the awesome scale.
